A Niangua teenager run over by a tractor Monday has died.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported late Tuesday that 15-year-old Coday W. Eaton had succumbed to injuries he suffered in the incident.
Information provided by the Highway Patrol states the accident occurred around 5:15 p.m. Monday on a private farm in Webster County.
Apparently, 14-year-old Lucian R. Shockley, also of Niangua, was driving a 1985 International 5000QT tractor through a gate when he inadvertantly struck Eaton.
Eaton was taken to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Dr. Robert C. Johnson Jr. pronounced him dead at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday.
The National Safety Council reminds everyone that agriculture is one of the most dangerous industries in the United States. The council recommends that that farm families make sure everyone who operates a tractor has received training and is physically able to operate it safely.
In addition bystanders and others should stay away from tractor operation area. And "extra riders," especially children, should not be allowed.
