Semi strikes car; five killed

Five Texas residents were killed Thursday night when their car was struck broadside by tractor trailer.

A report filed Friday by the Missouri State Highway Patrol states the incident began around 9 p.m. Thursday when Michael T. Woodward, 22, of Austin attempted to make a U-turn on U.S. Highway 412 about a mle north of Cardwell in Dunklin County.

As Woodward was making the turn, his 2002 Toyota Corolla was struck in the driver’s side by a 2000 International semi driven by Michael W. Baker, 28, of Lake City, Ark.

Woodward and passengers Stephanie A. Wilson, 20, of Houston; Fan Sun, 18, of Spring; and Lan P. Nguyen, 21, of Sugarland; were all pronounced dead at the scene by Dunklin County Coroner Jack Adkins. Another passenger, Nikolaus O. Simeon, 20, of League City, was taken by air ambulance to Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark. He died there just before 11 p.m. Thursday.

According to the Highway Patrol, none of the occupants in Woodward’s vehicle were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
